Some Facts about NBW

A Tough Market
It's no secret that times are tough. What stands out in adversity is the value of brands. Imagine starting up a restaurant today. The longer you have been in business, and the longer your reputation and brand have become established, the more likely it is that your customers will keep coming back. We are the same. It's becoming obvious that only the producers with determination and a real commitment to their product and brand will survive. Our guess is that many wine labels will disappear over the next few years. For these reasons we are stepping up our efforts to ensure Nevis Bluff becomes one of the most respected brands to your upscale clientele.

Some Facts about NBW | top
1) We operate a "restaurant only' strategy. It's hard enough for a restaurant selling wine without the diner being able to purchase the same bottle for half the price at the local supermarket.
2) NBW only makes Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. We are serious about seeking to be the best and don't want distractions.
3) We purchase from our vineyards up to 3 times the grapes we need. We operate on the basis of "keep the best and sell the rest" and only make wine in the years we can ensure the quality.

Thanks to those of you who provided advice on the recent modification of our label. Research indicated the old label was well recognised but could be improved. The recently launched 2007 Pinot Gris has the new modified label and all 2006 Pinot Noir supplied from 9 October will also feature the modified version.

Nevis Bluff Wines is a company spread all over the country. Kirstine Campbell, based in Central Otago, has been with the brand for most of the past 10 years and takes care of orders, export and administration from the Central Otago Wine Company (COWCO) winery in Cromwell. She also liaises with our winemaker, Dean Shaw, who is a shareholder in COWCO. Dean has been the Nevis Bluff winemaker since 1999. A "quiet achiever", Dean has made scores of fine award-winning wines over the past decade, although his modest nature prevents him from grabbing media headlights. Julia Spark is based at Ohoka when she isn't on a plane between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Julia is an experienced wine star who must have spent a past life in various restaurants, given her list of contacts. The two shareholders are Graham Wilkinson of Christchurch and Merrill and John Holdsworth of Wellington. Both shareholders own vineyards in Gibbston and Cromwell where our grapes are sourced from. Graham calls himself Managing Partner to reflect the entire company acting in partnership with its employees and customers.
